In Summary

The champions exploded out of the blocks, racing into the lead in the seventh minute. Ebenezer Assifuah pounced on a defensive error, latched onto a slick pass from Alpha Chris Onyango, and coolly slotted the opener past Maxwell Mulili.

Gor Mahia tightened their grip on the FKF Premier League summit with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over APS Bomet at the Green Stadium in Kericho Valley, moving six points clear of nearest challengers AFC Leopards after a weekend of dropped points by their rivals.

The champions exploded out of the blocks, racing into the lead in the seventh minute. Ebenezer Assifuah pounced on a defensive error, latched onto a slick pass from Alpha Chris Onyango, and coolly slotted the opener past Maxwell Mulili.

The early goal allowed Gor to dictate the tempo as they hunted a second that would have eased the nerves.

The breakthrough that looked to seal the contest arrived with ten minutes remaining when January signing Jackson Dwang produced a composed, expert finish to make it 2–0 and seemingly put the three points beyond doubt.

But the game was far from over. Substitute Hansel Ochieng, who had come on at halftime and famously netted a hat-trick in the reverse fixture, pulled one back just two minutes after Dwang’s strike, setting up a frantic finale.

In stoppage time APS Bomet pressed for an equaliser and came agonisingly close when Mulili produced a world-class save to deny a late leveller. Despite the home side’s late surge, Gor held firm and left Kericho with all three points.

The win lifts Gor Mahia to 43 points, stretching their advantage to six points over AFC Leopards, who were held to a 0–0 draw by Bandari at Mbaraki Sports Club.

For APS Bomet, the narrow defeat leaves them precariously placed 15th, just above the relegation zone, as they continue their battle to remain in the top flight after last season’s promotion.

Gor’s early intensity and clinical finishing proved decisive, while their ability to withstand late pressure showed the resilience of a title-chasing side. APS Bomet’s substitutions injected urgency and belief, and Hansel Ochieng’s late strike reminded everyone why he is a constant threat. Ultimately, Gor’s experience and timely finishing made the difference.

With momentum on their side and a growing cushion at the top, Gor Mahia will aim to maintain their form as the season progresses. APS Bomet must regroup quickly if they are to climb clear of danger in the weeks ahead.
